Manufacturer: Revell
Parts used: Out Of The Box with Mask set
Main paints used: Tamiya and Hataka
In part one, we look at the build ahead and start on the build by cleaning up the parts and looking at the clear parts. We then build the main body and glue and fill before scrape cleaning and sand all the seams.
In part two, we work on the engine nacelles and fit the clear pars and use clear blue and flat blues to pre-color them. we then glue them together and scrap clean and sand all the joins. Next we use black paint to seam check the joins and sand and polish ready for primer.
In part three, We RE-scribe and details we lost in the scraping and sanding. Next it’s into the spray booth and prime with gloss black Tamiya X-1. we use this to light fast the white plastic to give the model a solid look. Next it’s a coat of white and for this, we use Tamyia X-2 gloss white with rapid drying lacquer thinners. Last up we make an off white for the final topcoat.
In part four, it’s time to add Enterprise’s distinctive Aztec pattern, for this we use a mask set and this is where the fun starts. I’m not a fan of vinal masks and this proves me right with a few problems as you’ll see. After over 8 hours of masking, we move into paint again with a custom color and then remove all the masks. Last up, we give the whole model a light thin coat of off grey white mix to blend and weather the finish.
In the final 1 hour part, we instal and clean the clear parts and add detail painting with POSCA acrylic pens and start the decalling starting to bring the whole thing together. We then work on the sand for the Enterprise with gloss black and a coat of XK Extreme metals Chrome. Then it’s time to put the ship together and mount it on the stand for the final reveal.
