Revell 1/48 Tornado IDS Video Build

As promised here is my Revell 1/48 Tornado build where I use a unconventional build sequence to get some good joins on the parts of the intake and areas around the spine.


Part One

In part one I begin construction with the lower and rear fuselage which includes work on the undercarriage bays. The cockpit section and nose is completed (with important glueing advice). The upper fuselage parts are then joined to parts of the intake and this sub section is attached to the cockpit section. Finally a test fit of the two fuselage halves is carried out as a proof of concept.

Part Two

In part two I work on the flaps in the deployed position; attach the tail whilst minimising a step on the spine; put the air brakes in the closed position; attach the wings and join the two fuselage sections together.

Part Three

In part three I concentrate on completing the most tricky part of the build: the intakes. It doesn’t go perfectly so I spend a bit of time fixing errors from a hurried construction. As well as the intakes I add RWR aerials to the tail and build up the last part of the rear fuselage.

Part 4In part 4 I add the nose cone and work on the tailerons. After that I begin working on the engines, undercarriage and I show you how to fix an error on the BOZ pods.

Part 5
In part five the Tornado is completed. I remove raised panel lines from the fuel tank and re scribe them. Rather than use aftermarket seats I add lead wire and self adhesive foil to the seats to improve the look of the (slightly modified) kit parts. Then I moved on to painting the aircraft using Hataka Orange Line Laquers paints and I show you how to use photo editing software to pick out a colour palette for weathering. 

Slats are fitted as are the flaps. I've no clever way of dealing with the flaps and unfortunately, because its a three handed job they were added off camera. Finally the aircraft is weather using just Flory washes (Dark Dirt and Black) and engines parts are added to complete the build.
